Solid vs. Pattern

As much as I love patterns, I still gravitate towards solid fabrics on big pieces of upholstery.  Don't get me wrong,  I adore a striped chair or a damask ottoman, but there is something so crisp and clean about linen covered furniture.  A lot of people buy solid thinking they will tire of a pattern quickly.  What are your thoughts?  If money weren't an issue, would you spring for patterned
