****GIVEAWAY CLOSED****When I got married, my husband and I shared a full size bed. Full size! So, when we upgraded to a queen 5 years back I thought that was a big transition. We had plenty of room and never thought different...until we had two kids. Even the first kid wasn't bad. She never came into our bed. Like, not even once! Then we had our second and she lived in our bed. No matter what we tried, she would get her way and come into our bed at night. Well, my oldest started realizing what was going on and changed her tune. So, pretty much 6 nights out of the week I wake up with two littles in my bed. I tried all I could to stop it and change the behavior, but then I was also told that it's a phase and enjoy it. That these would be moments I would treasure later on. Either way...I wasn't getting sleep. My husband wanted a king bed bad. I didn't. I didn't want to cave! That was like letting them win :) But, then I found that DHP came out with a brand new line of amazing mattresses called DHP Sleep and I knew this would be the perfect opportunity to get better sleep :)
Here's my video of the unboxing! And then be sure to check below for my bedroom makeover and at the bottom of the post for a chance to win a FREE MATTRESS of your own!! Seriously though, best night's sleep ever. Not just because of the size, but because of the quality of the bed.
I wasn't sure how my room would look with a king size bed, but it fits! I felt like it would be too tight, but we haven't had a single problem. Adding 18 inches on width seemed daunting :) As for the bed frame, its the DHP Manhattan bed frame.
Another good thing? I can sleep sideways on this thing and not have my feet dangling off! Because, that happens more than it probably should by almost 6 foot :)
As for the comfort? It's amazing. It contours to your body while you sleep. It's not too soft and not too hard. It's just perfect! I feel like Goldie Locks saying that :) I was concerned with changing up my previous mattress which I loved, but this is just as good, if not better!
Another concern I had was how the heck do I change up my room to accommodate this new frame and new bed? I had a lot of ideas going on in my head, but ultimately decided on this one.
Here's the before, just as a reminder. It's crazy to see the difference in the size of bed!
As you can see, I'm used to having a tall headboard. In fact, the headboard before this one was even taller! So, going to a more modern, shorter headboard trumped me. Especially since I like to pile on pillows :)
So, I visually extended the headboard with a set of 6 frames of botanical prints.
It gave me the visual height I was missing and adding a ton of interest to this wall.
I found these prints from A Burst Of Beautiful. My printer actually ran out of color, so most of them printed like a vintage yellow which I fell in love with!.
I ended up changing my side tables up just a little. I added these tobacco baskets to the walls and used some faux eucalyptus leaves on this one.
For this side, I used a bunch of cotton stems in a vase. I feel like I should have put the eucalyptus on this side since it's a little more manly than cotton stems being that this is my husband's side of the bed :)
This room looked so soft and girly that I decided to add these tartan throw pillows to 'man' it up a bit :) I'm not sure if that was successful or not, but I do love how the pattern just jumps out at you.
I had to buy all new linens, duvet covers and comforters for this bed. So, that was fun doing something a little different than what I was used to. I definitely wanted to use stripes and found this bedding that I fell in love with! (source link)
And this saying on the wall! I used to pray this every night when I was a child. Every.Single.Night. And so I was so happy to find this! I was going to add it to one of my kid's bedrooms, but tried it here first and fell in love! My husband finds it a little ominous:) But, I don't see it that way. I guess when you grow up with saying it, you are used to it?
And I added another botanical print on this side of the wall. I wasn't sure if it would be weird having another one here, but I just loved it and thought it went perfect!
So, here's my complete bedroom again! I'm so happy how this space turned out. It's fun getting used to something new again. It makes me make my bed every day! I always say, if you don't have any desire to clean, it's time for a refresh. The same goes with making your bed. My desire was long gone for my old room!
And because everyone loves a good before and after, this is my bedroom the year we first moved into our house 8 years ago. It has gone through so many changes since then! It's crazy!
Now it's time for one of YOU to get a chance to win a DHP Sleep mattress of your own! I'm seriously beyond thrilled that DHP Sleep has been so gracious! They are excited to celebrate their new revolutionary mattress with you all! All you have to do is go to http://thriftyandchic.
